When optimism fails …

For a long while, I battled with the concept I hope to share with you in this post. It was one of those concepts that everyone I met claimed to have an explanation for. All they did was to confuse me more. I like to call myself a student of the University of Hard knocks, Read more of this post

Questions contd.

Sequel to my last post ‘Questions’, I have decided like i promised to give a candid opinion which i think would be answers to the questions I raised. Over the past week, I have interacted as usual with a number of people, many of whom I respect and I have come up with some interesting views about the whole situation. Opinions have propped up, and I hope they are answers. I do not claim to be all-knowledgeable enough to give a solution, but I hope that you strongly consider these questions and compare your own opinions with mine. Critique it or support it, cos I stand to be corrected. Read more of this post

Just a thought away

For a while now I have been giving a lot of conscious thought to my thinking pattern. I have asked myself a lot of fundamental questions about the way I think, what I constantly think about and how much control I really have over my thoughts. Now, that has been hard, but the more I try the easier it seems to get. Every so often, I catch myself in a negative vibe thought process. Something called a Mr. or Mrs.  yabut. Example of such an internal dialogue is : “I can talk to this person”, yea but he is too powerful or “yea but she is too rich and won’t listen to me now”. YABUT – a term dictated by my encounter with a book that is changing my life – The One minute Millionaire. Read more of this post

REVOLUTION-1

SS002943

I like to call myself an agent of change. Dedicated to promoting the cause of excellence in every sphere of my calling. This might sound too broad and not specific but hey, it sure doesn’t sound too bad for an opening  remark in a meeting in which I have to introduce myself. I am an agent of change. I love change, I am committed to personal development, I love to see things happen by vision, creativity, hard work, perseverance, positivity and commitment.

I am writing this post as a debut to a series that I am presently mentally developing.  I do not yet know what I would call it. Maybe revolution, build-up, change … well I don’t know yet. I am still putting my thoughts together. I am trying to see how I can make it effective. Its purpose is clear in my mind but its approach is still a little bit blurry. I am starting this post in the city of Abuja. I am in Abuja for one reason – to grow. But I have encountered a different level of growth. It is one that cannot easily be explained but I will do my best. Read more of this post

Just In Time

42-21687165

I took some time off to think about certain things recently and I came up with stuff that I unconsciously knew before but that were not really present in my conscious day to day state of mind. What has school done to us…?

Whoever actually came up with the concept of school never thought it would end up as a trap for the human soul. What do I mean by this? Many of us are glued to the conventions of school (and they are quite a number of such) that simply do not work in real life. Let’s look at some:

  1. Failure is a  mark/score
  2. We are all meant to do the same things
  3. My studies is my calling
  4. My salary is my earning
  5. Crooks own businesses
  6. It is bad to dare

Etc.

Well I may sound too extreme, but if you tell me that two of these are not applicable to you , I will call you a liar.

That is actually not the core reason for which I am writing this post. What I am really after is the amount of financial illiteracy that has plagued our schools. Read more of this post

If you say you never had a chance, perhaps you never took one.

smokey_conditions_aheadI got this title from a book I am presently studying. I say “studying” because that’s actually what I am doing. As usual, it’s one of those “gifts” from my boss that are special because you have to account for what you did with it. I am preparing a presentation on it right now and I hope it will be better than the last presentation I did – well I am determined to make it better. In case you have been wondering what the book is, the title is pour your heart into it written by Starbucks’ boss Howard Schultz and it is an insightful story of how a “coffee shop” can grow to become a fortune 500 company. Inspiring it is, and as a result I will be passing across some of the lessons I learnt from the book to you. Read more of this post

Get Creative!

1083012_thinking_out_of_the_box_31Am I shouting it? I think I am. But even if I am not you are probably wondering what I am up to. Well I just read a publication from the Harvard business school research and ideas column where a professor analyzed what massive opportunities are available in the wake of the current economic meltdown. You see some of us are ambitious enough to want to learn as much as can be learned so we decided to subscribe to the Harvard business reviews and you can do that also just log on to http://hbswk.hbs.edu/ and sign up. Boring …

roadI got to have a chat with my senior colleague today on our way to do some transactions. Busayo Akanro had always been an inspiration to me in terms of what he says and his mode of delivery. Well that’s not the issue now, the topic of discussion was cool and I felt I should share it with you. Have you ever heard this saying before “success is boring”. Well suffice to say, that’s the reason why many don’t attain the heights of great achievements. Read more of this post

The Fear of Transformation

Fear of Transformation
From
The Essene Book of Days by Danaan Parry

Sometimes I feel that my life is a series of trapeze swings. I’m either hanging on to a trapeze bar swinging along or, for a few moments in my life, I’m hurtling across space in between trapeze bars.

Most of the time, I spend my life hanging on for dear life to my trapeze-bar-of-the-moment. It carries me along a certain steady rate of swing and I have the feeling that I’m in control of my life. I know most of the right questions and even some of the right answers. Read more of this post
