Maybe this matters …

If you read my last post, then this should not be a problem for you to follow and understand. I noted three fields that should be in necessary alignment for you to be truly effective. i.e. the hedgehog concept. If you did then you probably gave it some thought at least – or if you are like most people, you abandoned the idea thinking it was to tedious and mentally engaging. OK, I know we live in a new era where speed is of essence, we move too fast for a too slow process like thinking. (just kidding, but if that annoyed you, send me a mail). Now let’s get serious here (although I am trying not too), I have got one advise for you – READ IT.

Now, back to today’s topic. It is simply an extension of what the last post was. You become a hedgehog when you discover that thing that you can be ‘the best in the world’ at, that fuels your passion and that meets a need in the world (and that you can get paid for). But I have met a good number of talented folks that also operates in the principle of whatever your hand finds to do, do well. Now these folks are very talented and passionate but the problem is that this gift of theirs is really their challenge. Ok, I hope you don’t know what I am driving at. Call it a good challenge and you will be mistaken. It’s a big one, and like every other challenge, it can be surmounted.

This is possible thanks to the singular and all-important concept called CONSCIENCE. If talent, passion and need are powerful concepts that can help you to locate your purpose, it would be injustice to assume you have it all sorted out without putting your Conscience into consideration – or so says Stephen R. Covey in his book ‘The 8th Habit: From effectiveness to greatness’. he defined conscience as the moral law within. The underlying sense of right or wrong. It cannot be negated by cultures; it cannot be negated by religion. it’s the still small voice. It is ultimately different from ego, which is focused on self and seeks for personal gratification in a myopic manner. Taking it into the spectrum of purpose and life-path, we can see conscience as the ultimate guidance factor in developing a hedgehog concept. I believe, very strongly, that it is the voice of the divine, it is God’s nudging of your spirit within and -even though faint – it allows you to make the best choices and decisions. It is the sensing of purpose.

I believe that everyone has this voice within. We sometimes are faced with situations that can be tiring and burdensome. As I have always known, when faced with such, I.e. when you body (physical, mind) is tired, let your heart (passion) take over. I however also strongly believe that when your heart gets tired, you have to look beyond yourself and let ‘purpose’ take over. Let your sensing within, the Voice of God within take control. Its beyond you right now, it’s for others as well. It teaches that the end does not justify the means but that the end and the means are one. Conscience teaches that sacrifice is something to be desired because of the greater good that will be done in the world through it. When your heart gets tired, when the passion gets diluted, let the purpose, the conscience take over.

‘and after the earthquake, fire, but GOD wasn’t in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper. When Elijah heard the quiet voice, he muffled his face with his great cloak, went to the mouth of the cave, and stood there. A quiet voice asked, “So Elijah, now tell me, what are you doing here?’
